Summary:
On day in a darkened antiques shop, Kuno is haggling with a saleman over a mysterious egg. The old man refuses to sale the egg until Kuno slaps him across the face with a wad of yen bills. Before turning the egg over to its new owner, the old salesman has only one word of warning... never put the egg on your head.
While playing baseball Ranma sees Kuno toting the egg. The ball slams into Kuno's face and he nearly drops the egg, but Ranma catches it and sets it atop his rival's head. The old salesman happens to see this and flees in terror as the egg begins to glow and crack. Even Ranma is nervous, until he sees the small, fat bird that hatches from the shell.
The ugly bird is a phoenix, and it proceeds to attack Ranma. As they soon discover, the bird imprints on the first thing it sees and believes that thing to be its enemy. Now Kuno is impervious to all of Ranma's attacks as the bird automatically attacks Ranma before the helpless martial artist can do anything to protect himself.
Kuno is upset that the bird even attacks female Ranma, which he doesn't seem to understand. The bird proves to be such an annoyance, that the Tendos order Ranma to leave the house until he deals with the bird which forces Kuno to follow him constantly. Sleeping in a tent with Kuno in a nearby lot, Akane comes to visit them the following morning. When the phoenix awakens it reimprints on her and begins to pursue her.
As the phoenix chases Akane, the antique salesman reveals that has a scroll that shows how to make food for the phoenix which will speed up it's growth and encourage it to leave Kuno's head and fly away. With the food in hand, everyone begins to force feed the bird, which grows increasingly large and destroys many homes throughout Nerima.
Finally the bird reaches a gargantuan size and flies away, leaving Kuno in a rather pitiful state. The bird leaves behind another egg though, and much to everyone's frustration, Kuno promptly purchase it.
